Song of Solomon 2:1 
 
Song of Solomon is about a man and a woman, their love, courtship, and marriage. It is an allegory of God's love for Israel and/or the church. Here we look at the “I am” of 2:1-2.

• This is a story that tells another story.
• The bridegroom (Christ) comparing Himself to a common flower in Israel.
• The Lord compares Himself to other objects:
  • The Bread of Life
    • John 6:35, And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
  • The Light of the World
    • John 8:12, Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
  • The Door
    • John 10:7, Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
  • The Good Shepherd
    • John 10:11, I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
  • The True Vine
    • John 15:1, I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
  • The Way, The Truth, and The Life
    • John 14:6, Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
  • The Bright Morning Star
    • Revelation 22:16,I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

Why the comparison? 

• Excellence
  • Exodus 18:11, Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.
• Color - 5 white petals (purity), 5 red inward sections (blood), 5 is the number for grace, 10 is the number for testimony
  • Hebrews 9:22, And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
• Fragrance
  • Ephesians 5:2, And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor.
• Planted
  • Philippians 2:8, Being found in fashion as a man, humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
• Trampled by Men
  • Rose of Sharon often trampled by man during wars but grew back
  • Isaiah 53:5, But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
• Rose of Sharon is free
  • Galatians 5:1, Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

• Christ is easy to find
